Well, guys, here we are.
SMOKING was so into your unruly proposals, that it didn’t wanted to keep you hanging on waiting for the two winners of "Unruly Lighters Only!" graphic design contest.
And this time, the official verdict came with a twist!
SMOKING decided to award the Grand Winner with an exciting extra prize: the real print and distribution of his entire collection, on 8 jumbo size lighters to be sold in all the Italian drugstores. Yes, you got it right, the winning collection will be printed and distributed all over Italy, in the very next future!
But the surprise has not ended yet, because also SMOKING’s second pick will be considered for future print and distribution, further on.

Create and submit a collection of 8 graphic designs, Win € 2.800 Prize Pot!
SMOKING is a cult brand that produces rolling papers and lighters, distributed throughout Europe. Its contemporary design lighters are created in limited editions and collected by fans from all over the world: some of them are impossible to find!
On the occasion of the launch of its brand new website www.smokingpaper.it, SMOKING wants to take another step closer to their passionate audience involving it on the creation of a new collection.
SMOKING WANTS YOU TO CREATE AN UNCONVENTIONAL, EXTRAVAGANT AND SHOCKING LIGHTERS COLLECTION!
With this new collection SMOKING would like you to be freaky imaginative! You have to be daring, challenge existing boring conventions, break rules.
Main theme of the contest is TRASGRESSION: graphics have to be bold, shocking, even vulgar or gross sometimes (without trespassing the limits, of course).
SMOKING wants to break the rules and to offer its audience, mostly composed by young people between 16 and 30 years old, funny, bold and transgressive collections.
You have to create something outlandish, but also able to recall the SMOKING brand as consumers know nowadays.
In few words, follow the spirit of SMOKING brand: young, funny, ironic, with a strong personality and never predictable. Just add some chili to spice up the perfect blend that made SMOKING a cult brand to smokers and collectors all over the world. Surprise us with the ideal Smoking lighter decoration that could became the leitmotiv for all his users.
Do not be afraid to be daring and tell through your graphics bold and uninhibited stories. The only limit is to not use concepts, images and words that could be perceived as racist or discriminating against groups or minorities.
Create and submit a collection of 8 graphic designs & illustrations using your unconventional, extravagant and shocking fantasy, be unique, and surprise SMOKING!
PRIZES AND VISIBILITY
First Prize: €1.200 + your collection could be considered for real execution and print on SMOKING lighters.
Second Prize: € 600
Shicon Picks: € 200 EACH for our special 5 favorites and presence in our Best Of area.
The best graphics will get prizes, and earn the possibility to be printed in the future for a limited edition run and become instant collectibles!
This is a unique opportunity! You could see your graphic ideas become the new SMOKING collection!
But there is more than that: all the collections will be published in the near future on the new SMOKING website. This will be one more opportunity to gain visibility with your work.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
How many graphics can I submit?
There are no limits to the number of submissions allowed for each designer, but remember that for each idea/concept you need to create and submit a collection of 8 graphic designs. Download the kit, now!
What to submit?
- One thumbnail that has to be the best representation of your design/idea because we'll use it in the vote gallery and through various areas on the site.
The thumbnail must measure 112x157 pixels (width x height) and must be jpg (RGB, no CMYK), gif or png. The picture has to be displayed vertically.
- One large image to show the 8 graphics with at least one on the lighter.
The image must measure 650x500 pixels (width x height) and must be jpg (RGB, no CMYK), gif or png. The picture has to be displayed horizontally.
*If you have troubles during the upload* Use the option “Save for Web” to save your file as Jpg Medium.
What I can't submit:
The works realized shall not contain any reference direct or indirect to smoking products.
In particular, will not have to appear:
- images or drawings even evocative or suggestive of cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, tobacco for pipes or snuff, or anyway products made from tobacco even partially;
- videos that contains images, drawings, or representations made in any way even only indirectly evocative of the products indicated at the above sub a);
- terms, expressions - in any language translated - "cigarettes", "cigars", "cigarillos", "tobacco", "pipe tobacco", "snuff ", "smoke", "smoking", "smoking products" or that are likely to evoke even indirectly one of products or terms described above;
- names, brands, or symbols of manufactures of cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, tobacco, or smoking products in general.
- challenge, in any way, the concept that a lighter can be a dangerous product not suitable for children;
- create an association between the lighter and any image with a negative perception. We will decline any works containing outrageous, discriminating and racism towards individuals and groups of people.
- communicate that a lighter is something that never turn off.
You must consider the safety of lighters as an important reference point.
Remember:
Create your design using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Submit a low resolution version jpg, gif or png for the contest, but make yourself sure and ready for high resolution in case you win.
